Người Trung Quốc từng truyền nhau câu “Hảo hán không đăng lính, sắt tốt chẳng làm đinh”. Có lẽ câu nói trên xuất phát vào thời điểm nỗi chán ngán khi vào quân ngũ của nam nhân Trung Hoa đã lên đến tột độ? Dù có thể câu này là sự bao biện của những kẻ muốn trốn tránh nhiệm vụ, tự đề cao thân phận mình là “hảo hán”, “sắt tốt”, nhưng cũng không thể phủ nhận ý tứ sâu cay, đầy châm biếm về thân phận lính trong đó.
